Can my body produce
vitamin D
from being in the sun in
Vitina
right now?
NO
EXPLANATION
- To naturally produce vitamin D your skin needs to be exposed to the UVB radiation.
- Unless the sun is at an elevation higher than 45° the UVB is filtered out by the
atmosphere.
- Currently, the sun is at -26.8° where you are. As consequence your body CANNOT produce vitamin D. Between 09:31 and 15:49 today the sun will be above 45°. See RED section in graph below.

CAUTION
-
Being in the sun in the middle of the day can be dangerous. While vitamin D is essential to us there is
no reason to overdo it.
-
You do not need to be in the sun for long to saturate your body's daily ability to create vitamin D. As
little as 15 minutes is sufficient.
-
Even when wearing sunscreen the small percentage that still passes that barrier is sufficient for your
body to create vitamin D. Wear sunscreen and/or cover the most exposed parts with clothes.
-
Even on cloudy days sufficient amount of UVB passes through the clouds to support your vitamin D
production.
-
If you are at a high altitudes the amount UVB is much higher than at sea-level.
ALTERNATIVE WAYS TO GET VITAMIN D
-
Dietary Sources: Include foods rich in vitamin D in your diet, such as fatty fish (salmon,
mackerel, and trout) and egg yolks.
-
Supplements: Consult a healthcare professional to determine if vitamin D supplements are
appropriate for you. Supplements can help meet your vitamin D needs, especially if you have limited sun
exposure or specific dietary restrictions.
